of volatile organic compound in indoor environment

yPurpose of businessz

In recent years, The sickhouse syndrome induced by volatile organic compound which is evaporated from building materials and household goods (organic compound with boiling point from hexane to hexadecane, hereinafter referred to as "VOC" )and by indoor air which is polluted with harmful chemical materials including formaldehyde present social problems.
In such a situation, Building Standard Act and the standard of school environmental health are revised, and measures against formaldehyde evaporation including obligations of the measurement of formaldehyde are taken.
This business, under request of "investigation and study committee of standardization concerning test method of VOC including formaldehyde and others" established in building materials examination center Foundation, takes charge of test method on JIS, and confirms performances for samplers exemplified in ISO standard and various passive samplers which are different and conducts comparative study.

In 2003, we confirmed performance under the identical air quality using VOC6 materials for 2 types of samplers exemplified in ISO16017-2 and 5 types which are different and comparison and verification were made. Results showed that environmental condition including temperature and others did not influence measurement results and samplers which can not be measured according to materials for measurement and a sampler with diffusion capturing velocity which is different from the value from manufacturers. Based on results of verification, raw proposal of JIS commentary are prepared and submitted to JIS original proposal preparing committee with business report for this theme.
